The Critiquing: Each critique is a comment posted underneath the audio file that other users and the mixer can read. We don’t expect you to write a book, but a critique must offer at least 2 suggestions to make the mix better. If your critique isn’t helpful and does not give 2 pieces of useful information for the mixer to use, it will not be counted towards your Mix Credits. You will mostly be critiquing mixes from mixers with less experience than you.
Mix Experience: We have 4 levels of mixing experience: Less than 20 Songs (New Mixer), 20-50 Songs (Beginner Mixer), 50-100 Songs (Intermediate Mixer), 100+ Songs (Experienced Mixer). We know that there are some mixers who may have more knowledge of mixing from 50 songs than some do from 100, but this is the easiest way we can classify and group mixers. Your experience will determine which mixes you most often critique; you will mostly be critiquing mixes from mixers less experienced than you (unless you are an New Mixer in which you will be critiquing mixes by other New Mixers) so you can offer some helpful advice that they might not know.
The Listening Rooms: The Listening Rooms are where you listen to and critique mixes to earn Mix Credits. Each Listening Room will have up to 20 songs to listen to and critique. From your User Account you will be able to access your designated Listening Room determined by your Mix Experience level. If you are an Experienced Mixer, you will mostly be critiquing mixes by other Experienced Mixers and Intermediate Mixers. If you are an Intermediate Mixer, you will mostly be critiquing mixes by Beginner Mixers. If you are a Beginner Mixer, you will mostly be critiquing mixes by New Mixers. If you are an New Mixer, you will mostly be critiquing mixes by other New Mixers. If that was a bit confusing, here is a simplified diagram:
Experienced Mixers — critique — Experienced & Intermediate Mixers
Intermediate Mixers — critique — Beginner Mixers
Beginner Mixers — critique — New Mixers
New Mixers — critique — New Mixers
While the diagram above is ideal, it might not work out exactly every time. There be an occasional Experienced Mixer critiquing a mix by a New Mixer and vise versa. We will do our best to keep it organized as labeled above, but due to mixes submitted and active users, it might be a little different.
